The island where the Mamma Mia! movie was mainly filmed was as charming and romantic as seen in the movie. The sandy beaches surrounded by milky rocks and turquoise water, the white houses of Skopelos Town, the Greek taverns were the main characters for a perfect week spent on the island.
Most of the days were spent exploring the beaches of Skopelos, being lazy under the umbrella and taking shorts dips in the turquoise water when was too hot. The late afternoons were spent wandering the narrow streets of the Skopelos little town, just chilling and have fun.
The Accommodation
We stayed at a super cozy and traditional Greek house having a beautiful garden and serving a delicious home-made breakfast. Every morning was a pure bliss to have breakfast in the garden and try each day a new Greek specialty. The location was very quiet, but very close to the city center.
The Beaches
We went to a new beach every day (I listed below all the beaches I went). Mostly of them offer sunbeds and umbrellas, so we spent a truly relaxing time, taking dips into the turquoise clear water and enjoy the sun.
Top things to do in Skopelos
- My favorite place in Skopelos was by far Agios Ioannis Church, the place where scenes from the Mamma Mia movie were filmed (The wedding). The chapel is nestled on the top a rock, 100 m height. There are almost 200 stairs to climb to the chapel, but you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view.
- wandering the streets of Skopelos Town, getting lost among the white houses decorated with blue windows fuchsia flowers, one of the most authentic Greek scenery.
- explore Glossa, a small beautiful village in the Northern part of Skopelos island.
- try the Greek specialties. There are lots of taverns and restaurants serving local products, must try Greek specialties and drinks. In term of food, Greece never disappointed me.
