The Besseggen ringe was my favorite hike during the trip in Norway and among the most beautiful I’ve ever done. It was mentioned as one of the best and most thrilling hikes in the world by National Geographic, with a good reason I believe. The scenery there made me feel speechless and humble. From the beginning to the end it was full of good surprises.
We started the trip by taking the boat to Memurubu and walking back to Gjendesheim. We left Memurubu at 15 p.m. and actually we were almost alone on the road, beside other 2-3 adventurers. Lucky that during the summer at 22 p.m. is still day light in Norway.
As we were hiking, the overview was breathtaking: The Gjende Lake at 700 meters below, with the most turquoise water and The Bessvatnet Lake at 300 meters below, with the dark blue water.
Here are some useful tips for the trip:
– The hiking time is about 8 hours, so a good shape will come in handy.
– The proper equipment is demanding: hiking boots, waterproof and windproof jacket and pants hat and gloves (I wish I had some, even at the beginning of August my hands were frozen) and waterproof backpack bag.
– The boat for timetable is available here, the tickets are sold on the boat.
Visiting Norway was one of my best travel experiences I had so far. It is a country with so many and great natural beauties, and still remained many places for another trip there.
