Skiing in Sölden, Ötztal area
Skiing in Austria in the past few years has become one of my favorite traditions. This year we went in Sölden. The whole Ötztal area in Tyrol is the winter sports’ paradise. I just fell in love with the slopes, the heights, the charming view of the Austrian Alps and the cozy après-ski huts.
We also stopped on the slopes of Hochgurgl for two days. Located only 10 km away from Sölden, the “Diamond of the Alps” how it is usually called, is a stylish ski resort with one of the most immaculate slopes I have ever tried.
The one thing I loved best in Sölden’s slopes were the BIG 3 points. These 3 mountains over 3,000 meters high are accessible by lifts: Gaislachkogl (3,058 m), Tiefenbachkogl (3,250 m) and Schwarze Schneide (3,340 m). Imagine skiing at 3000 m. It was an amazing experience, the view was incredible, but it was also freezing (20 degree below!)
Besides skiing, I took the opportunity and visited two of the most beautiful Austrian cities. With its gothic, renaissance and baroque architecture and surrounded by the Alps, Innsbruck is a charming little place. I also had an amazing time in Salzburg, strolling the narrow streets and watching the city from the hills at sunset.
Where we ate
I have developed a crush for gourmet burgers lately, so I was looking for the best burger places. Here are a few of my recommendation if you are a fan:
Jati Bar in Sölden – is a very good choice for burgers, and its cozy interior makes it even more attractive après-ski. Address: Dorfstraße 116450 Sölden I Österreich
Burgerista in Salzburg – this restaurant looks more like a fast-food but serves good burgers, french fries on the side and drinks including homemade lemonade with free refills. Adress: Griesgasse 15, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Wild West in Innsbruck – tasty burgers, and the bread was a kind of big home-made pita. Adress: Adamgasse 7, 6020 Innsbruck
