Here I am, back from another trip to Brussels. Since my sister lives there it became an usual destination for me. The last weekend, the whether was unusually good, so sunny and warm with no trace of rain. It was heavenly. Since we were so lucky we went out a lot and tried some Belgian specialties.
I discovered this Graffiti Street Art during my last trip to Ghent. It brings to the city an youth vibe and some kind of unique personality. In a previous blog post (here) I published a useful guide for the street art in Ghent.
When I’m thinking of Belgian Taste, chocolate and beer are the first things that pop into my mind. But there’s so much more that this little county has to offer: Waffles are Belgium’s most famous contribution to the food. So don’t miss out the true Belgian waffles in your trips. I might sound a bit biased, but in Ghent and Bruges you will find the best ones.
We spent the Saturday in Ghent which is only 40 min away by train from Brussels. Everyone, tourists and locals, were out enjoying the sun, having a beer or two, frites, waffles and the good life. We stayed alongside the canals and just lived the moment and enjoyed the good weather, as this is a rare thing in Belgium.
We spent the Sunday strolling around Grand Place in Brussels. I made sure I went to my favorite chocolatier Darcis, which is located in Grand Place. Don’t miss it if you ever visit Brussels. Besides the chocolate delicacies and some of the best macaron, they also make a delicious ice-cream, only with natural ingredients. My absolute favorite one is the strawberry flavored, but don’t worry, you can pick and chose from wide range, including chocolate or caramel salé.
Later we went and had brunch at Pistolet Original. “Pistolet” is a Brussels traditional type of bread with a crispy crust and soft inside, which makes for some perfect homemade sandwiches. We had the boudin blanc et oignons fondants (White sausage and onions) and it was simply delicious.
Here’s more of Brussels gems from my previous trip.
