During the winter season skiing is my favorite sport and I escape whenever I have the opportunity on the slopes. It’s such a great adventure, I can’t wait to ski again. But sometimes it is challenging to choose the right ski/snowboard equipment, especially if you are a beginner. And since the winter gear is not cheap, choosing the right equipment from the beginning will help you saving for the later.
So, based on my previous experience, I thought of making a guide that could be helpful, especially if you are beginner at buying equipment for winter sports.
- Goggles are the essential piece for any winter sport. In choosing the right ones the most important elements are: the color of lens, size (large/small) and shape (spherical/cylindrical) and anti-fog treatment. Dark lenses, such as grey, dark brown or mirrored, are best for bright, sunny conditions. Pink, yellow or green lens are suited for days where there is poor visibility. Some goggles have interchangeable lens which are easy to switch.
- Waterproof equipment– will keep you warm and dry so you can enjoy a good time on the slopes.
- A good pair of ski socks will keep your feet warm and comfortable.
- Base Layers are essential for skiing and a decent base layer is worth its weight in gold. Designed to regulate your body temperature, base layers will keep you warm and dry in any conditions.
- Helmet because safety is an important thing when on the slopes.
- Gloves/Mittens will keep your hands warm and dry, choose a pair with good insulation. Mittens tend to be warmer but gloves offer better dexterity.
