First trip of 2018! Austria for the ski holiday is always a good choice. I have to admit Austria is a winter sports paradise which I will always recommend: the slopes, the vibes, the après-ski, the spas and you can count. Last year we spent an amazing time in Sölden, in Tyrol region, you can read the story in this post.
This year, we went for ski and snowboard in Obertauern, which is a great resort for winter sports, with a lot of slopes, good vibes and traditional atmosphere. It was the 4th time when we come here, and we had fun as if we had come here for the first time. It is good to know that it is the snowiest Austria’s winter sport resort.
Being a winter sports holiday the equipment is ones of the most important aspects that count. I know it may be challenging choosing the right equipment from the beginning. So, I’ve made in this post a useful guide in buying the right ski essentials that could be helpful, especially if you are beginner.
Best après-ski in Obertauern
One of the best parts: the restaurants and après-ski. Here are some of the best places where we went and enjoyed a good meal in a rustic and cozy atmosphere:
Après-ski in Obertauern
Lürzer Alm – for the party lovers. It is the perfect place to treat your after a day on the slopes. It is a cozy, rustic and vibrant après-ski in the same time.
Die Talstation – here you can eat very good food at affordable prices. It is located right at the base of some of the ski lifts.
Treff 2000 is a ski hut situated at 2,000 m on the slopes. It was a good place for a ski break in order to have a drink and enjoy a panoramic view over the resort.
Après-ski in the surroundings area
Schi-Alm it is a rustic restaurant in Mauterndorf which enchanted us with its rustic woody interior and good food. We went there right after ski and enjoyed a super tasty meal in a cozy and good atmosphere. Here I ate a delicious homemade strudel.
Speiereck-Hutte is a hut at the top of a 2,066 m mountain. We stopped for a drink during our time on the slopes. The place is so cozy and intimate. The hosts are very friendly and as far as I know there are few room to rent.
The accomodation
We stayed at Gästehaus Jäger which is a traditional guest house in Mariapfarr. We had a small apartment at the top storey, in which it felt so good and cozy. What was great about staying in Mariapfarr was that we are able to visit surroundings and try some other slopes beside those in Obertauern. Salzburg and Hallstatt are places that worth to be visited if you are in the area.
Speaking of outfit, the best pieces for a winter holiday are some cozy sweaters, worn with waterproof clothes 🙂 . I brought with me two sweaters from Na-Kd, which are so versatile, not only kept me warm, but I easily matched with pretty much everything around there. My favorite is the red one, because red is my favorite color, and it has these balloon sleeves, that is an interesting detail.
And I have a promo code: by using “walkcatwalk20” on www.na-kd.com, you get a 20% discount to all your favorite shopping items. I’m sure you’ll find something you like 🙂
