When it comes to hidden gems in Greece, Pelion is among the first places that pops into my mind. Beside the diversity and the beauty of the beaches, Pelion is a place blessed with an abundance of vegetation, forests, waterfalls, springs and mountains, all these making the area a perfect destination all year long.
The beaches in Pelion are an ideal summer paradise created by the crystal-clear turquoise water of Aegean Sea surrounded by sand, lush vegetation and cliffs. Many beaches are accessible once you follow a narrow path into the pine or olives forest, often being isolated and semi organized.
I spent one week in Pelion enjoying all the beauty the area has to offer, so you can read in my last post the full itinerary there, including what experiences I have enjoyed the most, the most unique attractions of the area and places not to miss, accommodation and food.
Since there are so many beautiful beaches in the area, I have put together the most beautiful ones to visit in a week spent there.
Five of the most beautiful beaches in Pelion, Greece
Mylopotamos beach
Mylopotamos is the most popular beach in Pelion, there you will find a young and fun vibe. If you are looking for a beautiful beach to have fun with your friends, then Mylopotamos is the best place. The beach is divided in two by a stone arch, on one side you will find a bar and few taverns, umbrellas and sun beds, while to the other side is the wildest part of the beach.
The beach is easily accessible from the parking area by following a short stairway path down to the beach.
Driving to Mylopotamos you will get through Tsagarada village where you can admire a 1000 year old plane tree, one of the oldest in Europe. Tsagarada is a good stop also for taverns and restaurants, souvenir shops, mini-markets and ATM’s.
The nearest beach to Mylopotamos is Fakistra included among the most beautiful beaches in Pelion.
Fakistra beach
The rest of the world will seem far away when you’ll reach this remote corner of heaven surrounded by cliffs, forested hills and the turquoise shimmering sea.
Fakistra is an isolated beach, reachable after a 10 minutes hike into a pine forest, being included by some publications in the top of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Yet the beach hides a few more secrets: the cave of Panagia Megalomata, located on the left side of the beach which used to be a secret school during the Ottoman occupation and the waterfall hidden into the forest located just behind the beach.
Being an isolated beach means that there aren’t any bars or taverns in the area, so bring water and provisions.
Fakistra is also part of Tsagarada – Fakistra – Damouchari trail a 7.5 km long hike which takes you through the beautiful lush vegetation of Pelion while admiring the most incredible panoramic sea views, leading to Damouchari beach, located in the village where Mamma Mia movie was filmed.
Damouchari beach
Damouchari beach is located in a small but beautiful village by the sea, where you will only find a few stone houses hidden by the olives trees, mostly being small hotels, taverns and shops.
In spite of being very small, Damouchari became famous as the place where scenes from Mamma Mia movie were filmed.
If you go there, don’t miss the panoramic views on the left and right sides of the beach reachable after a short hike.
Damouchari beach is also the end point of Tsagarada – Fakistra – Damouchari trail, Fakistra beach being the nearest beach.
Agio Saranta beach
Agio Saranta is among the biggest beaches in Pelion, also very beautiful and popular. There are several taverns and bars on the beach offering a variety of sunbeds and umbrellas. During the weekends and during the high season the beach gets very popular then the music and fun are predominant. I enjoyed the tavern located at the end of the beach.
However, during outside the high season the beach is very tranquil, a perfect location to read and to spend a relaxing day by the sea, while dipping into the turquoise water and snorkeling.
Plaka beach
Located between Agio Saranta and Papa Nero beach, Plaka is another romantic beach laying at the foot of a forested hill. This beach as well is accessible after a short hike following a narrow path into the olives forest. On the beach you will find a tavern and few sunbeds and umbrellas, but there is also enough wild beach without all these.
Parisena beach
Parisena beach is located in Horefto and is one of the longest sandy beaches in Pelion. Wild and beautiful, Parisena is the favorite beach of hippies and often people bring their tents to stay over night. This is why there aren’t any sunbeds, umbrellas and bars on the beach.
