1. Peles Castle

Hidden in a fairy-tale location, Peles Castle is a masterpiece built as a royal residence for the Romania’s first king Carol I. You will be impressed by its rooms and secret passages, which host a rich collection of art, all acquired over generations by the royal family.
Location: Sinaia, a small mountain resort in Romania, 127 km away from Bucharest and 40 km away from Brasov.
Entrance fee:
- There is no entrance fee for the surroundings and the garden.
- The entrance fee for visiting the interior of the castle is RON 30 /EUR 6 (basic exhibition) or RON 60 / EUR 12 (optional tour).
- The entrance fee for visiting Pelisor Castle is RON 20 / EUR 4.

- The Pelisor Castle is just a stone’s trow from the castle, I highly recommend to visit it as well. Even the architecture looks more like an impressive Bavarian house rather than a castle, Pelisor was the residence of the royal family. Inside the little castle you will find romanticism, richness in art and beauty.
- Other sights which are located very close to Peles Castle are George Enescu Memorial House (the biggest Romanian composer and musician) and Sinaia Monastery, a beautiful Byzantine architecture.

2. Cantacuzino Castle
This castle impresses with the simplicity, but at the same time with the authenticity, being a treasure of Neo Romanian style.
Built in 1911 for the prince Grigore Cantacuzino, the castle is surrounded by a charming garden, statues, fountains and alleys which always fascinated me. This garden is like a big balcony overlooking Bucegi mountains.
Peles Castle is located approximately 10 km far away, so a tour Peles Castle – Pelisor Castle – Cantacuzino Castle is a good option for a day trip.

She is the one that had the biggest role in the restoration of the castle and today, Bran Castle is a museum displaying the art and furniture collected by Queen Mary.

4. Corvins’ Castle
Even since I first saw this castle I felt the medieval charm of yore. Corvins’ Castle is Transylvania’s most enthralling medieval castle, the place that will take you back, hundred years in the past. If you will let your imagination run free, you will meet knights, kings and you will be delighted by its legends.
Entrance fee: RON 35 / EUR 7.
Located in Hunedoara, in southwestern Transylvania, the castle is easily accessible from the old center by walking a short distance.

5. The Clay Castle of the Valley of Fairies
Although it is not a castle with a historical meaning, The Clay Castle of the Valley of Fairies is an unique place in Romania worth to be visited due to its fairy-tale inspired architecture. It was built to bring back to life the charm of childhood stories.
The castle is made entirely by clay, straw and sand, being designed and build by the local artisans. As soon as you will get there you will be taken to a world of fairy-tales.
Entrance fee: RON 5 / EUR 1.
Location: Porumbacu de Sus, a village which is 40 km away from Sibiu. The castle can be reached only by car.
