Piz Boe, is one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites, towering at over 3000 meters. The hike is quite difficult, but the stunning views of the Dolomites and the alpine meadows make it well worth the effort. It is advisable to be accompanied by a guide as the terrain can be quite dangerous.
Normally the hike takes 6-8 hours to ascend and 5-6 hours to descent (if you took the same route back).
We started to hike from Colfosco, trail 651 (val de Misde) to Rifugio Boe, then we took the trail 638 to Piz Boe summit Descent, trail 638 to Piz Boe Alpine Lounge and for the returning trail 639 to Corvara.
This trail took approximately 12 hours, the descending route was longer than the ascending one. It is recommended to hike this route in two days.
There are two shelters along route, where you can spend the night, Rifugio Boe (3000 m) and Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa (3152 m), in the top.
The views from Piz Boe are simply breathtaking, with panoramas of the entire region stretching as far as the eye can see. The hike can be quite challenging, but it is a truly memorable experience for those more experienced hikers who are looking for a rewarding challenge.

Which route did take to Piz Boe summit – from Sass Pordoi or top of Vallon Chairlift? i.e., where is your trailhead/base?

Starting point – Colfosco, ending point Corvara Ascent. It was a long trail for a day, but very beautiful 🙂
We took: trail 651 (val de Misde) to Rifugio Boe; trail 638 to Piz Boe summit Descent; trail 638 to Piz Boe Alpine Lounge; trail 639 to Corvara.
Hope this info helps, enjoy Dolomites 🙂

Hi,
This looks to be a challenging hike. How much is the ascent and descent for this walk and how long roughly does it take?
Did you need any gear to climb?
It will be helpful if you are able to provide me with the information please.
Thank you.

Hi,
The hike was very challenging, it took approximately 12 hours, but it could be done also in two days, if you want to relax on the way.
For ascent: there are two shelters along route, where you can spend the night, Rifugio Boe and Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa in the top. Please check if you have to book in advance.
I would say it takes 5-7h to ascent and 4-5h to descent.
The ascent trail started from Colfosco and the returning trail ended in Corvara in Badia. The returning route is longer.
No special gear needed, only common equipment for hiking.
