We enjoyed every moment during our stay in Stockholm. It is a quiet city and during the fall it seems even more peaceful and cosy, with many cool restaurants, clubs and shopping area. Having sea, many alleys are on the water’s edge making walking much more enjoyable. Since we stayed right in the city center, at Berns Hotel, it was easy to reach the main attractions of the city by walking. In my previous post – here – you can read more about our stay at Berns Hotel.
Top sights we visited during our 4 days in Stockholm
- Stockholm’s Subway Art
- Nordic Museum
- Vasa Museum
- Moderna Museum
- Museum of Photography
- Djurgården – which is amazing during fall season
- Gamla Stan in Old Town
- City Hall Tower for a panoramic view over the city (opened from May to September)
- Strolling in Sodermalm
Stockholm’s Subway Art
Traveling by subway in Stockholm is like visiting a beautiful art gallery. In fact, Stockholm has one of the largest art exhibition in the world, which stretches over 100 km long. 90 from the 100 metro station are beautifully decorated by artists with different themes. We managed to visit T- Centralen, Stadion, Solna Centrum and Kungsträdgården.
Stadion is one of the Stockholm’s first cave metro station and the rainbow is a reminder that there is a sky not far away.
Solna Centrum at the first sight it looks like a stairway to hell but in fact the red and green colors represent the evening sun sets over the forest.
Stockholm’s Museums
We managed to see the most important museums in Stockholm, since they were optimally in Djurgården island, 20 minutes walk away from our hotel. Djurgården island is a beautiful location for walks especially during warm season or during fall season, when the golden leafs are a bliss.
Nordic Museum is the biggest and the most important museum in Stockholm, being representative for the Nordic life, while Vasa Museum is the maritime museum of Stockholm, featuring among the few ships of the 17th century, which was sank during a battle, but totally recovered.
Moderna Museum is located on the island of Skeppsholmen featuring a modern art gallery, while Photography Museum is located on the Södermalm island, which is a beautiful location for panoramic views as well.
City Hall Tower
The Tower of City Hall is opened from May to September, but the area is very beautiful to explore, for the panoramic view over the city and the relaxing spots alongside the river.
Where we ate, favorite restaurants
Restaurants – we discover some good restaurants in the area in which we strolled. My favorite were Wokhouse (address: 26 Regeringsgatan, Stockholm 111 53, Sweden) and Orchid Thai restaurant (address: Medborgarplatsen 3, Stockholm 118 26, Sweden) which serves very good Asian food in a pleasant environment.
