Cheking in: The Designhotel Wiesergut in Hinterglemm, Austria
Salzburgerland will remain that place in Austria where we would always come back with joy. The variety of mountain trails, lake views or endless slopes make it a great destination all year round.
Just imagine a place where the time has stopped and captured the harmony between the nature and the modern minimalist design. Surrounded by the slopes of Hinterglemm, a ski resort in the Salzburgerland, The Designhotel Wiesergut is the essence of an Austrian retreat and comfort, green nature SPA and gourmet cousine.
As we arrived, we were greeted by a welcoming, warm and cosy atmosphere, while being fascinated by the minimalist but so distinctive design: floor-to-ceiling windows revealing the beauty of the nature, wooden combined with stonework, or staff uniforms – the entire concept of the hotel is the result of passionate storytelling in order to create a complete and unforgettable experience for the guests.
It’s been a week since I’ve come back home, but still remember the nights while we were cosying up by the fire in the lounge of the hotel, the mornings when we would wake up with the view of the mountains partially covered by the fog, the breakfast à la carte, with so many home-made specialties, or the early mornings spent at the outside pool, while contemplating the awakening of nature to life. If only all the mornings would start like that.
We spent our time enjoying this delightful place, relaxing and day-dreaming while listening the sound of the fountain in the garden and pampering our minds and bodies at the SPA. We also enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and went for a hike, since there are so many options in Saalbach-Hinterglemm area.
The culinary experience
I love a good organic food. At Wiesergut Hotel they focus on the smallest details when making or serving a meal, this is why my culinary experience was a pure delectation. The meal is freshly prepared and healthy, being made from raw ingredients, outsourced from local farms or grown in the hotel’s garden. Everyday we had a different menu and was so good to experience the Austrian Slow Food.
The breakfast is served à la carte, between 07:30 a.m – 11:00 a.m, so there was no rush for us to wake up too early. I have enjoyed the breakfast time, being so various and tasty, from made-to-order eggs coming from the hotel’s own farm, to the homemade jams and traditional different types of cheese from Salzburger Land (my favorite was the organic sheep’s cheese). The coffee is so important to me and I loved the taste of it, but also that it was served in handmade ceramics cups, just like all the others plates.
Even more pleasantly, during the diner time, the restaurant turned into a cosy and romantic place, combined with the delectation of culinary tasting.
The SPA time
Wiesergut SPA is the ultimate Austrian retreat in order to spoil the mind and the body. From the morning dips into the outside pool, while watching how the nature awakened to life, to the afternoon Finnish sauna with a beautiful view over the hills, the SPA time was the essence of cosyness and well-being. The Hotel provides fully bathrobes for the SPA, books and magazines, fresh water from the hotel’s spring, tea, fruits and snacks. The relaxation rooms are a pure bliss, the perfect place to sit back and watch the sunset, while enjoying a gorgeous view over the hills.
There are also special treatments available, consists in relaxing rituals and massages, beauty treatments and herbal baths.
Saalbach–Hinterglemm region, Salzburger land
The hotel is located in Hinterglemm, Salzburger Land, part of Saalbach-Hinterglemm one of the biggest ski resorts in Austria, just one hour and a half drive from Salzburg, or three hours drive from Munich. Saalbach-Hinterglemm is perfect for hiking activities, mountain bike or winter sports. We visited around end of September, and the weather couldn’t have treated us better: it was still warm enough and perfect for outdoors activities, hiking or just relaxing into the beautiful garden of Wiesergut Hotel.
All in all, Wiesergut Hotel was a unforgettable getaway, a place for rest and harmony, which we plan to experience during winter season as well.
